Biological Activities of Arabinoxylooligosaccharide (AXOS)

AXOS is a pentose oligomer derived from arabinoxylans (AX) by physicochemical or enzymatic treatments. AX degrades to AXOS by enzymatic hydrolysis in the colon using intestinal microbiota or during food processing. AXOS belongs to dietary fibers. Studies have shown the prebiotic effects of AXOS in the colons of humans and animals. AX and AXOS are associated with many health benefits, including immunomodulatory activity and attenuation of type II diabetes. AXOS has also been reported to attenuate serum cholesterol, triglyceride, and glucose levels.

AXOS Analysis Service at CD BioGlyco

With years of experience, CD BioGlyco provides customized approaches combining the appropriate preparation and analysis techniques to study oligosaccharides. We offer all types of Oligosaccharide Analytical Services. We provide customized analytical studies using our large range of analytical techniques implemented by our skilled analytical team.

  • High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)

HPLC is at present the main analytical technique used for carbohydrates analysis.

  • Reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC)

RP-HPLC is applied for the structural characterization of derivatized AXOS.

  • Mass spectrometry (MS) and tandem mass spectrometry (MS/TMS)

MS/TMS is applied for the determination of linkage positions and sequences of oligosaccharides.

  • Porous graphitized carbon (PGC) and hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC)

PGC-HILIC has enabled the HPLC-MS or HPLC-MS/MS analysis of oligosaccharides without derivatization.

  • Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-MS (MALDI-MS)

Applied for determination of the molecular weight distribution of AXOS.

  • Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy

Applied for identification of the structure elucidation of AXOS.

  • High-performance anion-exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection (HPAEC-PAD)

HPAEC-PAD is used to analyze quantitatively after being

For example, we identify cereal AXOS by negative ionization HILIC-MS/MS and perform structural analysis. The analysis process is as follows:

1) Sample preparation and extraction: AXOS is prepared from wheat and oats by using different hydrolyzing enzyme treatments.a
2) Analysis: Hydrolysates are fractionated by GPC, separated by HPLC, and identified by HPAEC-PAD and NMR spectroscopy.
3) Structural analysis is performed by negative ionization HILIC-MS/MS.

Applications

  • The structural identification of oligosaccharides provides the basis for the structural information of polysaccharides.
  • Structural analysis significantly promotes the research on relationships between structure and function.
  • Combining the negative MS method with HILIC would enable high-throughput analysis of AXOS mixtures without sample derivatization.

Advantages

  • Targeted customized service plan.
  • High sensitivity, low detection, and quantification limits.
  • All types of samples, ranging from highly purified material to crude extract samples.
  • Simple, fast, and perfect after-sale service.

CD BioGlyco has provided high-quality AXOS analysis services over the years and has been a rich experience. If you need our services, please feel free to contact us.
