Maltooligosaccharide Analysis Service

Maltooligosaccharide Analysis Service

Bioactivity of Maltooligosaccharides

Maltooligosaccharides is a collective term for maltose, maltotriose to maltooctaose. Maltose is a disaccharide consisting of two glucose molecules linked by a glycosidic bond. The number of glucose residues that make up maltotriose to maltooctasaccharide increases in sequence. Maltooligosaccharides and their derivatives are now widely used in the food and pharmaceutical industries. For example, the substrate used to determine amylase activity in human serum and urine in clinical and in vitro diagnostics is maltoheptaose, which consists of modified glucose residues at the reducing and non-reducing ends. Maltooligosaccharides have been found to have a variety of biological activities. Among them, maltotriose has been shown to increase the uptake of glucose by cells. It can inhibit the growth of certain fungi, bacteria, and viruses. Maltotetraose also has several biological activities such as antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory. It also has potential anti-diabetic and anti-obesity activities.

Maltooligosaccharide Analysis Service at CD BioGlyco

CD BioGlyco has extensive experience and a dedicated research team in structure analysis and bioactivity determination. To expand the applications, we have developed a variety of oligosaccharide structure analysis and bioactivity assay services. Our maltooligosaccharide assay services include but are not limited to the following.

  • Maltooligosaccharide Structure Analysis Service

High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is the most common technique to detect maltooligosaccharide content. We mainly use HPLC to detect maltooligosaccharide content in individual samples, including maltotriose, maltotetraose, maltopentaose, etc.

Oligosaccharides are often associated with biological functions such as cell-cell interactions, recognition, and defense due to their distribution on cell surfaces. Therefore, chemical characterization of oligosaccharides is one of the key steps in understanding the above biological processes. We have many years of experience in oligosaccharide detection. The detection of oligosaccharide structure includes parameters such as molecular weight distribution, molecular conformation, molecular particle size, molecular aggregation state, etc. We have a wide range of testing equipment, including HPLC, high-performance anion-exchange chromatography with pulsed-current detection (HPAEC-PAD), etc.

  • Maltooligosaccharide Bioactivity Analysis Service

Maltooligosaccharide has been proven to have various biological activities. Our maltooligosaccharide bioactivity analysis program has a wide variety, including in vitro bacteriostatic, antioxidant, and other bioactivity testing. In the bacteriostatic assay, we will culture the corresponding bacteria (Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, etc.). After that, we will test the diameter of the inhibitory circle of different concentrations of maltooligosaccharides, the effect on the growth activity of the bacteria, etc. We will also test the scavenging ability of different concentrations of maltooligosaccharides on various 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), superoxide anion, and other free radicals to evaluate their antioxidant activity. Some studies have found that maltotriose affects other enzymes involved in Carbohydrate Metabolism. As per the customers' request, we will develop relevant experiments to verify the effect of maltooligosaccharides on glucokinase, hexokinase, etc.

Paper Title: Characterisation of brewpub beer carbohydrates using high-performance anion exchange chromatography coupled with pulsed amperometric detection

Technology: HPAEC-PAD

Journal: Food Chemistry

IF: 3.391

Published: 2014

Results: In this study, HPAEC-PAD was used for the determination of various malt oligosaccharides in beer. This method measures all the oligosaccharides in a single chromatographic run and the sample does not require any pretreatment. The elution conditions were optimized experimentally. The peaks of different compounds were well separated. The accuracy and reproducibility were tested to be good. The results showed that the oligosaccharide content of different beers varied widely.
