Pectin Production

Pectin Production

Pectin has attracted much attention as an excellent gelling agent, stabilizer and emulsifier. CD BioGlyco has been focusing on pectin production and process development for more than ten years. We have invested a lot of money and introduced many researchers to ensure that we can provide customers with high-quality and efficient pectin production services. We have confidence to be your essential research assistant in the field of glycobiology.

Background

Comparison of some commercial and non-commercial sources of pectin

Pectin is a native polysaccharide in the cell walls and middle lamellae of many plants, especially fruits and vegetables, it was first isolated from vegetables in 1825. Pectin is a polysaccharide polymer compound widely distributed in the fruits, roots, stems and leaves of plants in the form of protopectin, pectin and pectic acid. Although it is ubiquitous in nature, the pectin in citrus, apple, sugar beet and sunflower is considered to have special industrial
value, it has good gelation and emulsification stabilization and is widely used in food, medicine, daily chemical and textile industries. Moreover, the characteristics of artificially extracted pectin will vary with the plant source, extraction method and processing conditions after extraction.

Experts predict that the demand for pectin will continue to grow at an annual rate of more than 10% for a long time. Vigorously carry out the research and development of pectin, explore new methods and new resources to improve the yield and quality of pectin, not only can provide a theoretical basis for the wide application of high-quality pectin in many fields, but also promote the development of pectin production.

Services

CD BioGlyco is a professional food ingredient manufacturer, we can also formulate different experimental programs to meet the needs of customers (for research or industrial use) to ensure that we provide the best service for different projects. Our services include but are not limited to the following aspects.

  • Traditional process
  • Including pretreatment, extraction, concentration, precipitation, drying. It is then subjected to detailed chemical analysis and blended with sugar or salt to standardize the product to ensure a constant degree of gelation. This method needs to consume a lot of ethanol, and the production cost is relatively high.

  • Novel technologies
    • Microwave technology: Microwave heating can reduce the heating time, and will not damage the pectin structure, and the yield and quality are improved.
    • Vacuum freeze-drying technology: The pectin products obtained by using this technology have a pale-yellow color, good solubility, and stable properties.
    • Membrane separation technology: The pectin extract is processed by ultrafiltration membrane devices, and most of the hydrochloric acid and inorganic ions are removed by electrodialysis. The obtained extract can be directly dried to obtain high-quality pectin, and the production cost is reduced.
