Mannitol Analysis Service

Mannitol Analysis Service

Mannitol is a sugar alcohol that is widely used in food, chemical, medical, and other industries. CD BioGlyco provides mannitol analytical services by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), capillary electrophoresis-electrochemical detection (CE-ED), and spectrophotometry.

Mannitol, also known as mannite or mannitolum, is a common natural carbohydrate. It is widely distributed in many edible fruits and vegetables, such as pineapple, celery, pumpkin, and carrots. Microorganisms such as bacteria, yeast, and seaweed can also produce mannitol. In 1806, mannitol was first isolated and characterized from the honeydew honey tree by Proust. The content of mannitol is various in different species. For example, brown algae under photosynthesis can produce 10-20% mannitol, while Fraxinus ornus tree bark can be heated to produce 30-50% mannitol. In addition, the content of mannitol is also related to its effect in higher plants. For example, the mannitol content of F. excelsior L. leaves is twice as high under drought conditions as under well-watered conditions.

Applications of Mannitol

1) Food industry

Mannitol can be used as food ingredient for dieters and diabetics due to its zero glycemic index and insulin index; Used as a sweetener in sugar-free chewing gum; Used in flavored ice cream and chocolate to increase the firmness of the crust; Used in the bakery industry to maintain the color appearance of products.

2) Clinical and pharmaceutical industry

Mannitol is widely used in clinical as an efficient dehydrating agent and osmotic diuretic. In the pharmaceutical industry, mannitol is used as a raw material for chemical synthesis.

3) Chemical industry

Mannitol is used as a starting material to manufacture rigid polyurethane foam, which has the advantages of oil resistance, oxidation resistance, and dimensional stability.

Our Services

Qualitative and quantitative analysis of mannitol is crucial due to its wide application in the food, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries. At CD BioGlyco, we provide mannitol analysis services for our clients worldwide by the following methods:

  • HPLC is commonly used for the detection of mannitol, especially for the quantitative analysis of mannitol in complex components.
  • CE-ED is suitable for the determination of mannitol samples containing many carbohydrates.
  • Spectrophotometry is suitable for the analysis of mannitol with a clear composition and the absence of interfering substances.

CD BioGlyco provides efficient, economical, and hassle-free mannitol analysis services for our clients. If you are interested in our services, please feel free to contact us.
