Multi-step chemical synthesis techniques; Enzymatic synthesis techniques
Monosaccharides are the simplest carbohydrates and cannot be hydrolyzed to smaller carbohydrates. In general, monosaccharides can be classified according to different characteristics, such as the position of the carbonyl group and the number of carbon atoms in monosaccharides. In the last few years, due to the continuing discovery of bioactive compounds containing monosaccharide units as their structural components and increasing application of monosaccharide as chiral starting materials in synthesis, the interest of researchers in monosaccharide synthesis has considerably increased.
The isolation of Monosaccharides from natural sources is difficult. Multistep chemical or enzymatic synthesis is an effective way to synthesize monosaccharides and their derivatives. Synthesis reactions of monosaccharides include Wittig reactions, oxirane ring openings, Diels-Alder types, and organometallic reagents. Several remarkable synthetic achievements have been made in the field of monosaccharide synthesis in the past few years. Natural products can be assembled by monosaccharide and carbocyclic ring systems through different schemes for the radical cyclization strategies. The obtained target molecules were used for cycloadditions reactions to monosaccharide derivatives to construct the carbocyclic ring systems in chiral natural products.
CD BioGlyco is proficient in multi-step chemical or enzymatic synthesis techniques for the custom synthesis of monosaccharides and their derivatives. The services we can provide include but are not limited to:

Results: In this paper, authors propose and analyze the artificial synthesis of carbohydrates (specifically monosaccharides like glucose) from atmospheric CO2, water, and renewable energy as a sustainable alternative to conventional agriculture. They argue that traditional agriculture has severe environmental externalities (high land/water use, pollution, emissions) and low solar-to-food efficiency, failing to meet future food demands sustainably. The authors detail a technical pathway based on the formose reaction, outlining process steps (CO2 direct air capture, electrolysis, formaldehyde synthesis, hexose synthesis) and estimate its energy efficiency.
