Results: A novel solid-phase microextraction coating based on β- and γ-cyclodextrin-functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotube composites was developed for the determination of ultra-trace levels of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Antarctic snow samples. X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) and NMR were used to characterize the multi-walled carbon nanotube composites. The results showed that the combination of multi-walled carbon nanotubes and γ-cyclodextrin enabled the development of an effective and low-cost PAH analysis method. The limits of detection and quantification were lower than 0.7 and 2.3 ng/L, respectively, with relative standard deviations (RSDs) lower than 21% and recoveries ranging from 88 (± 2)-119.8 (± 0.4)%.
