Glucose-based Biodegradable Material Development

Proficiency in Business and Rigorous Glucose-based Material Development Work

CD BioGlyco provides high-quality Carbohydrate-based Biodegradable Material Development services for drug transportation, food packaging, cell culture, etc. As a common Monosaccharide, glucose is widely used in the preparation of biodegradable materials such as hydrogels and scaffolds. With our expertise and rich experience, we provide a high-quality glucose-based biodegradable material development service.

Our development process is as follows:

  • Preparation of biodegradable materials

Glucose is a common and inexpensive metabolic intermediate. It is potentially used as an energy source by cells when released through polymer degradation. Glucose has good biocompatibility and natural bioactivity. However, single glucose-based materials have drawbacks such as insufficient mechanical strength and poor performance, which limits their application in drug delivery, tissue engineering, etc. We use two approaches to address this issue. One is to improve the properties of glucose-based biodegradable materials by chemical modification. The other is to prepare materials by mixing glucose with other compounds. We are skilled in various material preparation techniques such as foaming, solution casting, direct mixing, and coating. After determining the experimental program we prepare materials with good properties by adjusting the proportion of starting materials, the degree of modification, and polymer concentration.

  • Analysis of biodegradable materials

All chemicals in the preparation of biodegradable materials are characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), etc.

Results: In this study, a biodegradable glucose-based hydrogel, designated poly(glucose malate)methacrylate (PGMma), was synthesized by photocrosslinking. The hydrogel was materialized with malic acid and glucose and incorporated methacrylate groups. The hydrogel was tested to have a wide range of degradation rate range, compressive strain range, and compressive modulus range. Moreover, it has cell adhesion properties that enable the spreading of adherent cells and is suitable for cell culture applications and various tissue engineering.

Applications

  • Regenerative medicine: Glucose-based biodegradable materials are used to deliver and recruit cells to promote tissue regeneration in the body.
  • Food packaging: Glucose-based biodegradable packaging materials are used to keep food fresh, avoiding the various contamination problems caused by non-biodegradable materials.
  • Cell culture: Glucose-based biodegradable materials provide an efficient growth environment for stem cells to differentiate into a wide range of cell types that closely resemble natural tissues.

Highlights of Us

  • We develop glucose-based biodegradable materials with good biocompatibility, bioactivity, high mechanical strength, and safe degradation products.
  • We adjust the mechanical and biological properties of the materials by adjusting the glucose ratio, chemical structure, etc., according to the client's application needs.
  • We are equipped with state-of-the-art testing instruments, including NMR, scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), etc. We analyze the developed materials in a comprehensive and detailed manner.
