Lectin Production Service

Lectin Production Service

According to the production method, lectins are divided into two categories: natural lectins and recombinant lectins. There are some differences between the two types of lectins in their properties, production methods, and applications. Depending on the properties of the two lectins, CD BioGlyco provides production and customization services for each type of lectin through different methods. Additionally, we offer a Chromatography-based Purification Service for both natural and recombinant lectins.

Lectin Production Service at CD BioGlyco

Naturally extracted lectins are glycoproteins that recognize and bind to sugar chain structures. Natural lectins have the advantage of being widely sourced and easy to extract. Natural lectins generally have higher specificity and activity than recombinant lectins. CD BioGlyco utilizes homogenization, ammonium sulfate precipitation, SDS-PAGE, and other methods to separate natural lectins. Subsequent purification is performed using affinity chromatography, ion exchange chromatography, and gel filtration chromatography of carbohydrate ligands.

Plant lectins are unique proteins found in a wide variety of plants. With cutting-edge technology and skilled expertise, we are delighted to offer comprehensive plant lectin production services. We provide not only a wide range of plant lectins but are also able to customize our services to cater to specific client demands. The table below provides an overview of the plant lectins we offer.

Animal and fungal lectins are proteins produced by organisms that have the ability to bind and precipitate different sugars.CD Bioglyco focuses on the R&D and production of lectins, providing lectins of various sources and properties to meet the different needs of clients. The table below provides an overview of the animal and fungal lectins we offer.

Recombinant lectins are glycoproteins obtained by cloning and expressing specific lectin genes through genetic engineering technology. CD BioGlyco provides recombinant lectin production services via Bacterial, Yeast, Insect, or Mammalian expression systems. The protein is purified using chromatography and affinity purification techniques similar to those used in natural lectins. Recombinant lectins are more structurally uniform and controllable than natural lectins. It also recognizes and binds to sugar chain structures, but generally with higher specificity and activity than natural lectins. In addition, the production of recombinant lectins through genetic engineering technology more efficiently produces large amounts of lectins and avoids viral contamination that may exist when extracting lectins from natural sources. The table below provides an overview of the recombinant lectins we offer.

Applications of Lectin

  • Lectins are used in cell biology to sort and separate cells according to their surface carbohydrate signature. They specifically bind to glycan structures on cell membranes and help separate different cells.
  • Lectins are used in immunohistochemistry to detect specific carbohydrates in tissues. They bind to glycoproteins and glycolipids, allowing visualization and analysis of tissue structures.
  • Lectins are used for the identification and detection of microorganisms. Lectins have agglutinating properties that cause microbial cells (bacteria, viruses, or fungi) to clump together based on their interaction with their surface carbohydrates.
  • Lectins are used to study glycoproteins and glycolipids due to their specific binding to carbohydrate structures.
  • Lectins can be used to differentiate blood groups by specifically binding to certain blood group antigens.
