Biodegradable Polysaccharide Blending

Biodegradable Polysaccharide Blending

CD BioGlyco is committed to providing a wide range of available methods for the preparation of polymer blends of cellulose, chitin, and chitosan with natural and synthetic polymers to assist clients in the production of polysaccharide-based polymer blends. We have the confidence to provide our clients with professional scientific services and high-quality experimental results.

Polysaccharide Blending

Theoretically, synergistic interactions between polysaccharides are a natural property of polysaccharides and the study of interactions between polysaccharides of different structures can deepen the understanding of the structure-function relationship of polysaccharides. In addition, polysaccharide blending has the potential to improve their properties, such as changing the viscosity or gelation properties of polysaccharides. As with the blending of synthetic polymers, the blending of polysaccharides can provide a wider range of novel polysaccharide products.

Currently, the binary blends of natural polysaccharides (cellulose-chitin, cellulose-chitosan) and their blends with synthetic polymers have been considered promising systems for the manufacture of polymer materials. The presence of polysaccharides confers biodegradability and biocompatibility to these compositions and enhances their hydrophilicity and colorability. These blends can be used to create composite polymer films, hydrogels, ionic exchangers and complexing agents, membranes, shells for encapsulated drugs, sutures, etc. The type of bonds between the components, their compatibility, and the characteristics of the super-fractional structures formed determine the physicochemical and mechanical properties of these blends.

Biodegradable Polysaccharide Blending Services at CD BioGlyco

We offer our clients a variety of biodegradable polysaccharide blending strategies to obtain a wide range of Polysaccharide-based Biodegradable Materials for biomedical applications. For example, we have successfully prepared microcapsules made from chitosan and sodium alginate for use in immobilizing bacteria, living cells, or activators and modulators in drug therapy. Our services include but are not limited to:

  • Preparation of cellulose, chitin, and chitosan blends with synthetic polymers.
We offer a variety of methods to help our clients produce polysaccharide-based polymer compositions. For example, the preparation of the blends of chitosan with poly(acrylic acid) by condensation-filling method, preparation of chitosan-epoxy resin blends by cold and heat curing, and preparation of blends of polycaprolactone (PCL) and chitosan by casting from a solution.
  • Preparation of cellulose-chitin and cellulose-chitosan blends
    • We help clients prepare homogeneous blends combining the unique properties of chitosan with the availability of cellulose. Materials based on these two polysaccharides in the form of granules, powders, gels, and films can be used as sorbents and drug carriers.
    • We help clients prepare cellulose-chitin films from solutions in a dimethylacetamide-LiCl mixture and study the thermodynamic compatibility of the chitin and cellulose.
  • Preparation of polysaccharide blends by solid-phase method
We help our clients achieve solid-phase modification of polysaccharides under shear deformation conditions, which allows one to combine the activation stage (amorphization, increase in specific surface area and dispersion) and the chemical reaction itself (interaction with other reagents) in the absence of liquid media (diluents and solvents). For example, we prepare cellulose-chitosan blends under the combined action of high pressure and shear deformation.
  • Characterization of blended polysaccharides
We offer Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), circular dichroism, X-ray diffraction, X-ray small angle scattering, and atomic force microscopy techniques to help clients characterize the structure of blended polysaccharides and analyze their interaction mechanisms.

With advanced technology and a first-class research team, CD BioGlyco is capable of providing comprehensive services of Modification of Biodegradable Polysaccharides to obtain polysaccharide-based polymer blends and characterize these polymers with the aim of future biomedical applications.
