Difucosyllactose (DFL) Production Service

Difucosyllactose (DFL) Production Service

Difucosyllactose (DFL), as a fucosylated HMO, shows good biological activities. In this regard, CD BioGlyco has many years of scientific research experience and provides you with a high-quality service for DFL production.

Biological Activity of DFL

DFL is a tetrasaccharide, where a second L-fucose moiety has been added to the 3-position of D-glucose in 2'-Fucosyllactose (2'FL) via an α(1→3) bond. It has strong antibacterial activity against various pathogens, including group B streptococcus, which has been identified as a major cause of neonatal sepsis. A study evaluated the effects of three HMOs, 2'FL, 3-fucosyllactose (3-FL), and DFL, on the growth of probiotic and pathogenic bacteria. Bacterial groupings include Bifidobacteria, Lactobacillus, other human commensals, and potential pathogens. Most bacteria were found to grow well on commercial galacto-oligosaccharides, while DFL and 2'FL were the most selectively utilized carbohydrate sources, followed by 3FL. Compared with other prebiotics with lower selectivity, the selectivity of HMO can promote the growth of beneficial microorganisms but does not support the growth of harmful pathogens, thus facilitating the evolution of infant intestinal microbiota.

New Food Ingredients Containing DFL

The reports on its biological activity and application are mostly mentioned together with 2'FL. Recently, a mixture expected to become a new type of food has attracted the attention of researchers. It is a powdery mixture mainly composed of two oligosaccharides, 2'FL and DFL (81% and 11%, respectively, average of five batches of the new type food) and other carbohydrates (e.g. D-lactose, L-fucose), 2'-L-fucosyl-D-lactulose), obtained by fermentation of transgenic Escherichia coli K12 strain using D-lactose and D-glucose as raw materials. Its production is intended to be used in infant food, food for special medical purposes, whole meal substitutes for weight control, food supplements, and various foods.
