Description
This high-purity synthetic model formulation features dipalmitelaidoylphosphatidylcholine and cholesterol liposomes (16:1 (Δ9-trans) PC:Chol (70:30) liposomes) prepared at a precise molecular ratio. The vesicular matrix self-assembles from exactly 70 mol% of the symmetric trans-monounsaturated phospholipid dipalmitelaidoylphosphatidylcholine (16:1 (Δ9-trans) PC) and 30 mol% of high-purity cholesterol (Chol). Unlike cis isomers, the trans configuration at the delta-9 position (Δ9-trans) allows the C16 acyl chains to adopt a straighter, more extended conformation, resulting in tighter liquid-crystalline packing and a higher phase transition temperature than its cis counterpart.
