Description

This high-purity synthetic single-lipid formulation features 1-stearoyl-2-arachidonoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine liposomes (18:0-20:4 PC liposomes). The vesicular matrix self-assembles entirely from the highly asymmetric polyunsaturated phospholipid 1-stearoyl-2-arachidonoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (18:0-20:4 PC). The combination of a rigid, fully saturated C18 stearoyl tail and a long, highly flexible tetra-unsaturated C20 arachidonoyl tail creates significant liquid-crystalline packing defects, resulting in high membrane fluidity and elevated susceptibility to oxidative chain degradation.
