The vesicular matrix self-assembles entirely from the asymmetric phospholipid 1-oleoyl-2-palmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (18:1-16:0 PC). This structural framework alters typical membrane asymmetry by positioning the monounsaturated C18 oleoyl chain at the sn-1 position and the fully saturated C16 palmitoyl chain at the sn-2 position, yielding unique lipid packing properties and a modified main phase transition temperature.
