Description

This high-purity synthetic model formulation features diheneicosanoylphosphatidylcholine and cholesterol liposomes (21:0 PC:Chol (70:30) liposomes) prepared at a precise molecular ratio. The vesicular matrix self-assembles from exactly 70 mol% of the symmetric odd-chain phospholipid diheneicosanoylphosphatidylcholine (21:0 PC) and 30 mol% of high-purity cholesterol (Chol). The use of long, odd-numbered saturated C21 heneicosanoyl acyl tails introduces specific chain-packing configurations that, in combination with cholesterol, yield a highly stable and dense liquid-ordered phase boundary layout.
