The internal structure encapsulates the hydrophilic antimetabolite drug 5-fluorouracil along with superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles within the central aqueous core and interfacial domains of a robust phospholipid vesicle matrix. This configuration coordinates the magnetic nanoparticles near the polar headgroups of the lipid bilayer, introducing a strong response to external magnetic fields while restricting the passive leakage of the water-soluble drug across the membrane interface. The resulting magnetic nanoliposomes exhibit a narrow sub-micron size distribution and high colloidal stability.
