These gold nanoparticles are surface-modified with primary amine groups, resulting in a positively charged surface at neutral pH. The amine groups allow for the stable covalent attachment of carboxyl-containing molecules through amide bond formation. These particles maintain the intense plasmonic absorption characteristics of the gold core, making them suitable for optical detection applications.
