Amino-functionalized MSN-coated gold nanorods (AuNRs@MSN-NH2) are anisotropic gold nanostructures coated with an amine-functionalized mesoporous silica shell. The gold nanorods provide longitudinal surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) in the near-infrared region, while the shell provides a high loading capacity for molecular payloads.
