Carboxyl-PEG modified magnetic mesoporous SiO2 nanoparticles (COOH-PEG-MMSNs) are hybrid structures where a magnetic mesoporous silica core is further modified with PEG chains bearing terminal carboxyl groups. This provides a balance between high internal loading capacity and high external colloidal stability.
