Description

This advanced composite formulation features carboxymethyl chitosan-modified paclitaxel liposomes (Carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCT)-modified paclitaxel liposomes). The structural matrix incorporates the highly hydrophobic taxane diterpenoid paclitaxel directly into the hydrocarbon core of a phospholipid bilayer, whose exterior surface is completely enveloped by an electrostatically bound outer layer of the water-soluble polymer carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCT). This surface modification introduces a modified surface charge profile and establishes a dense hydrophilic steric layer around the lipid headgroups, which increases membrane thickness and controls the passive crystallization of the taxane cargo in open aqueous suspension.
