These nanoparticles consist of a synthetic polymer or lipid matrix enclosing near-infrared cyanine-7.5 fluorescent dye molecules. The structural shield prevents aggregation-caused quenching of the dye, maintaining a clean emission window in the deep near-infrared region around eight hundred and ten nanometers.
