Description

This high-purity synthetic model formulation features dioleoylphosphatidylcholine liposomes modified with a precise molecular fraction of sterols (DOPC+10% cholesterol liposomes). The vesicular matrix self-assembles from exactly 90 mol% of the highly fluid monounsaturated phospholipid 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DOPC) and 10 mol% of high-purity cholesterol. The integration of a minor 10% sterol fraction into the highly fluid, cis-kinked C18 oleoyl bilayer core begins to restrict hydrocarbon tail mobility, creating localized liquid-ordered domains and modulating passive membrane permeability without altering the baseline room-temperature fluidity.
