The vesicular anatomy features a high-purity phospholipid-cholesterol bilayer shell encapsulating the water-soluble hydrochloride salt form of the anthracycline doxorubicin entirely within its central aqueous reservoir, utilizing an internal ammonium sulfate or citrate crystal matrix to precipitate the drug into an amorphous fibrous state.
