Description

This high-purity synthetic model formulation features dipalmitoylphosphatidylethanolamine blank liposomes modified with a precise molecular fraction of sterols (DPPE+10% cholesterol blank liposomes). The vesicular matrix self-assembles from exactly 90 mol% of the symmetric saturated phospholipid 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine (DPPE) and 10 mol% of high-purity cholesterol without containing active drug cargo. The combination of the small, hydrogen-bonding phosphatidylethanolamine headgroups and a minor 10% cholesterol fraction induces unique lateral packing constraints and high curvature stress along the hydrophobic core, modulating the baseline main gel-to-liquid phase transition parameters.
