Properties
Description
These drug-loaded sodium alginate nanoparticles are formulated through the ionotropic gelation of a natural linear polyanionic polysaccharide with multi-valent cations such as calcium. The resulting structure consists of a highly hydrated ionic egg-box carbohydrate network that encapsulates active substances within its hydrophilic domains. It displays strong structural sensitivity to external ion exchange processes and undergoes rapid swelling or dissolution in chelating medium conditions.
