Description

This advanced responsive hybrid formulation features folate targeted and chitosan coated curcumin loaded pH-sensitive liposomes. The structural matrix encapsulates the hydrophobic polyphenoid compound curcumin within its lipophilic tail domains, utilizing a lipid bilayer core coated with an electrostatically bound outer layer of the pH-responsive biopolymer chitosan (CS) functionalized with vitamin B9 folic acid (FA) targeting ligands. Under neutral laboratory calibration indices, the biopolymer shell remains highly stable; however, crossing an acidic pH threshold triggers rapid swelling or dissolution of the chitosan matrix, causing localized lateral phase separation, altered fluid mechanics, and instantaneous curcumin release.
