Description

This organized formulation features liposome-encapsulated interferon-alpha DNA [liposome-encapsulated IFN-α DNA] designed as a non-viral gene delivery reference model. The internal structure encapsulates water-soluble plasmids encoding interferon-alpha (IFN-α) DNA entirely within the central aqueous core of a cationic lipid bilayer matrix. The electrostatic binding between the positively charged headgroups of the cationic lipids and the anionic phosphodiester backbone of the DNA stabilizes the macromolecular cargo, preventing physical entanglement and structural shearing. The resulting sub-micron vesicles exhibit high colloidal stability and a highly uniform spherical morphology.
