This advanced composite material features liposome-modified rare earth upconversion nanocomposites designed with an inorganic-organic core-shell architecture. The internal structure consists of a crystalline rare earth-doped upconversion nanoparticle core (such as NaYF4:Yb,Er) that converts near-infrared excitation into shorter-wavelength visible emission, which is completely enveloped by a self-assembled outer shell of a high-purity phospholipid bilayer matrix. This configuration combines the photostable, background-free optical upconversion properties of the metallic core with the interfacial stability and surface-functionalization capabilities of a lipid bilayer shell. The resulting core-shell nanoparticles exhibit high colloidal stability and a highly narrow sub-micron size distribution profile.
