The internal structure encapsulates pre-formed inorganic long persistent luminescence nanodots (such as chromium-doped zinc gallate) within the aqueous compartments and interfacial domains of a high-purity phospholipid bilayer matrix. This complex configuration combines the continuous, excitation-free optical emission properties of persistent luminescence nanodots with the mechanical stability and surface-functionalization capabilities of a lipid vesicle. The surrounding lipid shell prevents nanodot aggregation and gravitational sedimentation in laboratory test buffers.
