This advanced multi-component system features non-mitogenic fibroblast growth factor 1-loaded pegylated liposomes combined with ultrasound-targeted microbubbles (NMFGF1-PEG+UTMD ultrasound-targeted microbubble liposomes). The complex architecture consists of microscale lipid gas vesicles (microbubbles) optimized for ultrasound-targeted microbubble destruction (UTMD) mixed with or conjugated to nanoscale pegylated liposomes that encapsulate the macromolecular protein non-mitogenic fibroblast growth factor 1 (NMFGF1) within their aqueous cores. This configuration combines the acoustic resonance and scattering properties of lipid microbubbles with the protein retention and steric stabilization capabilities of a pegylated liposome shell. The structural integrity of the dual lipid assemblies prevents gas dissipation and protein denaturation during mechanical handling.
