This highly responsive formulation features nitric oxide responsive liposome-encapsulated gold@copper sulfide core-shell nanosystems (Au@CuS YSNPs). The internal structure encapsulates inorganic gold@copper sulfide (Au@CuS) core-shell nanoparticles within a responsive lipid bilayer shell engineered with nitric oxide (NO) sensitive molecular switches (such as o-phenylenediamine linkages). When exposed to a nitric oxide solution in a laboratory assay, the responsive lipid linkages undergo a rapid chemical cleavage reaction, altering the membrane packing configuration and triggering membrane destabilization and nanoparticle liberation. This unique structural configuration combines the localized surface plasmon resonance and photothermal characteristics of the bimetallic core-shell particles with a gas-sensitive mass transport release mechanism.
