These are magnetic mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MMSNs) that have been surface-functionalized with polyethylenimine (PEI). The mesoporous silica shell provides a massive internal surface area for the loading of chemical guests, while the PEI coating introduces amine-based reactivity and acts as a capping agent to control the diffusion of molecules. This architecture integrates high-capacity storage, magnetic recovery, and pH-responsive molecular recognition into a single nanoparticle system.
