Description
This bio-inorganic material features ultra-small silver nanoclusters containing only a limited number of core atoms, structurally encapsulated and stabilized within individual branched polyethylenimine (PEI) macromolecular scaffolds. The heavily branched PEI matrix strictly limits the growth of the metallic core, leading to quantum confinement phenomena and distinct molecular-like electronic transitions. This structure displays high fluorescence quantum yields and generates a strong positive surface potential across neutral fluids due to the dense network of primary, secondary, and tertiary amine groups.
