Properties
Description
Poly(n-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPA) hydrogels are the archetypal thermo-responsive materials. The composition consists of NIPA units that undergo a sharp phase transition from a hydrophilic to a hydrophobic state at approximately 32掳C. The structure collapses and expels water rapidly above this temperature, which is a process known as the volume phase transition.
