Protein complex-functionalized gold nanorods are macromolecular-inorganic assemblies where rod-shaped gold nanoparticles are coated with organized multiprotein complexes. The surface composition is governed by controlled adsorption parameters that protect the tertiary and quaternary structures of the bound proteins. This product displays a large hydrodynamic radius and exhibits distinct plasmonic shifts that correlate with the protein layer thickness.
