Description

This advanced engineered system features ligand-functionalized cytarabine-loaded liposomes. The structural matrix traps the hydrophilic pyrimidine nucleoside cytarabine (arabinosylcytosine) entirely within the central aqueous reservoir of a rigid phospholipid-cholesterol bilayer shell, whose exterior boundary is surface-modified with targeting ligands (such as antibodies or small molecules) linked via polymer spacers. This precise surface modification alters the surface hydration parameters and surface charge topography, establishing a dense target-mimetic ligand array that completely prevents physical vesicle aggregation while restricting the passive diffusion of the encapsulated nucleoside across the lipid boundary.
