These water-soluble chitosan nanoparticles available for drug loading are formed via the partial deacetylation or salt-functionalization of natural chitin to ensure complete dissolution across neutral pH ranges. The pre-formed particulate structure features an abundant distribution of open, active primary amino and hydroxyl groups along the carbohydrate chain. It serves as a highly reactive template that readily coordinates with diverse organic or inorganic guest compounds.
