  • MAL production service

Two lectins, MAL-I and MAL-II, have been extracted from the seeds of M. amurensis. They have agglutinating activity on different blood cells and binding specificity to Neu5Acα2-3. Researchers use them as analytical tools for α2-3-linked sialic acids biological targets. The production of lectins is fundamental to the study of their physiological functions and applications. We optimize them according to the reported MAL extraction method.

Lectins are easily affected by the extraction time, material-liquid ratio, concentration, and pH of the extraction Solution. We mainly use M. amurensis seeds and bark as experimental materials to optimize the conditions of concentration of extraction solution, material-liquid ratio, extraction time, and pH of lectin. After extraction by Tris-HCI buffer, the extracted lectins are treated by graded precipitation with ammonium sulfate. Afterward, it is further purified using a combination of Gel Chromatography and Ion Exchange Chromatography. Finally, the purified lectin product is obtained by freeze-drying.

We measure the purity and characterize the obtained lectins. In addition to this, agglutination activity, sugar-binding specificity, amino acid composition, etc., are also measured.
