This bio-inorganic core-shell nanomaterial features a face-centered cubic gold core encapsulated within a crystalline titanium dioxide (TiO₂) outer shell, surface-passivated with a monolayer of structurally intact protein molecules. The TiO₂ shell provides active metal-semiconductor electronic states, while the protein corona masks the high surface energy of the outer facets and dictates the localized zeta potential in buffered fluids.
