Composite core-shell nanospheres consisting of a rigid, amorphous silica (SiO2) core encapsulated by a thin, continuous crystalline gold outer shell. By tuning the ratio of the core radius to the outer shell thickness, the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) peak can be precisely shifted across the near-infrared region.
