Description

This material consists of crystalline silver nanoparticles whose outer facets are coordinated with and stabilized by a dense monolayer of macrocyclic sulfonated calix(4)arene (SC4A) molecules. The macrocyclic host molecules form a highly organized, cavity-rich organic boundary layer that prevents silver nanoparticle aggregation through strong electrostatic and steric hindrance from the peripheral sulfonate groups. This precise structural layout provides a highly water-soluble template with a distinct negative surface potential and active supramolecular guest-inclusion coordinates.
