These carboxyl modified NaY(Gd/Lu/Nd):Yb,Er,Nd@NaYF6:Yb,Nd upconverting nanoparticles (UCNPs) are engineered with a carboxylic acid surface for high dispersibility in polar solvents. The multi-layered inorganic structure is designed to facilitate efficient green and red upconversion luminescence under varying infrared excitation. The carboxyl groups are available for subsequent laboratory functionalization with a wide range of chemical ligands.
