These customized sodium erbium fluoride (NaErF4) based upconverting nanoparticles (UCNPs) utilize stoichiometric erbium hosts to explore unique energy transfer pathways. By adjusting the crystal phase and surface coating, these nanoparticles can be tailored to exhibit specific red or near-infrared emission profiles. These customized materials are used for research into self-sensitized upconversion and the development of specialized near-infrared emitters.
