These 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine-poly(ethylene glycol) (DSPE-PEG) modified upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) utilize an amphiphilic lipid-peg coating to encapsulate a hydrophobic luminescent core. The composition provides a highly stable aqueous dispersion with a biocompatible peg interface.
