Description

These gadolinium oxide:ytterbium,erbium (Gd₂O₃:Yb³⁺,Er³⁺) upconverting nanoparticles (UCNPs) utilize a paramagnetic oxide host for the rare-earth dopants. The high refractive index and high density of the Gd₂O₃ host influence the spontaneous emission rate of the ytterbium and erbium ions. These particles are synthesized to maintain a small size while providing dual optical and magnetic functionality.
