These methylene blue (MB) conjugated sodium yttrium fluoride ytterbium erbium upconversion nanoparticles (NaYF4:Yb,Er UCNPs) utilize an erbium-doped core to activate the phenothiazine dye. The composition relies on the overlap of the nanoparticle's red emission with the absorption spectrum of the mb. The structure is modified to ensure stable dye conjugation for photochemical research.
