These monopyrrole derivative (MPDE) conjugated sodium yttrium fluoride ytterbium erbium upconversion nanoparticles (NaYF4:Yb,Er UCNPs) consist of a crystalline fluoride matrix and a specifically bound organic photosensitizer. The composition utilizes the erbium activator emissions to trigger the electronic states of the mpde molecules. The physical structure is designed for efficient interfacial energy transfer between the inorganic host and the organic guest.
