These oleic acid modified upconverting nanoparticles (UCNPs) are hydrophobic fluoride-based nanocrystals capped with a layer of long-chain fatty acids. The oleic acid coating ensures excellent dispersion in non-polar organic solvents such as cyclohexane or chloroform. These particles represent the standard high-quality starting material for research involving phase-transfer ligand exchange or incorporation into hydrophobic polymer matrices.
