These phospholipid modified alpha-phase sodium yttrium fluoride:ytterbium,erbium (α-NaYF4:Yb,Er) upconverting nanoparticles utilize a lipid bilayer-like coating to mimic biological membranes. The cubic α-phase host provides a distinct crystalline environment for the Er and Yb dopants, leading to characteristic emission spectra. This modification facilitates the integration of the inorganic cores into lipid-based research models and aqueous systems.
