Description

These poly(maleic anhydride-alt-1-octadecene) (PMAO) surface modified upconverting nanoparticles (UCNPs) are created by encapsulating hydrophobic crystals within an amphiphilic polymer. The poly(maleic anhydride-alt-1-octadecene) (PMAO) coating transfers the particles into water while providing a surface rich in anhydride groups for further chemical modification. These nanoparticles are used for research into phase-transfer mechanisms and the development of highly functionalized aqueous nanophotors.
