Description
These poly(n-isopropylacrylamide) modified water-soluble upconverting nanoparticles (UCNPs-PNIPAAm) feature a thermo-responsive polymer coating. Poly(n-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) undergoes a reversible phase transition at its lower critical solution temperature, causing the particles to transition between a hydrophilic and a hydrophobic state. This behavior allows for the optical monitoring of temperature-induced changes in the local polymer environment.
